Rovinj in Croatia, was our first stop on our tour. This picturesque and romantic town was once an island but has grown attached to the mainland over the years. However, having been an island for centuries, Rovinj escaped Croatia's devastation and looting. And this is plain to see. The centre is a maze of narrow streets and coloured facades which gives a cosy atmosphere. It also has a harbour full of colourful boats, which are surrounded by a clear blue sea. This makes it one of Croatia's most colourful cities and definitely worth a visit. Curious about what to do in Rovinj? Then read our tips below!

Transport to and in Rovinj, Croatia
Rovinj is easily accessible by car or motorhome. Bear in mind that you cannot enter the city centre by car or motorhome and you will have to park outside the centre. Are you travelling to Croatia by plane? Then choose to rent a car and add more places to your itinerary through Croatia.

What is there to do in Rovinj, Croatia?
Rovinj is one big attraction if you ask us! It is a lovely town to wander around, shop and eat delicious food. Its colourful streets, good pizzas and cosy bars make you feel like you are walking through Italy. But besides ‘wandering around’ in the old town, there is much more to do!
Climb to the top of St Euphemia Church
You can't miss this church! It towers far above the city, making it the ideal place to view Rovinj from above. From the old town, several streets lead towards the church. It is a short climb to the church but the view down is already beautiful. Want to go all the way to the top? You can do so for 20 Kuna (€2.70) via a steep staircase to the top.

Take a boat trip to Red Island
Unfortunately, this was not possible during our tour of Croatia (corona), but we have heard many positive stories. Red Island, also called Crveni Otok, is Istria's largest uninhabited island. Several taxi boats leave daily and take you to the island within 15 minutes for 5 euros. On the island you will find several beaches surrounded by clear blue water.
Swimming in Rovinj
If you prefer to swim in Rovinj itself, that's possible too! The coast around Rovinj is clear blue and surrounded by small pebble beaches or rocks with flat sunbathing spots. It is an impressive and beautiful coastline where you can swim and enjoy beautiful sunsets in the evening.

Wander through the old town of Rovinj
This we still want to mention; go for a wander around a city, without navigation and without a plan. That way, you will discover nice boutique shops, restaurants and bars. The most famous spot in town (a view through to the sea) can be found opposite the Angelo D'Oro hotel.

Take a day trip to Pula
Are you staying in Rovinj for a longer time and want to plan some fun day trips? Then check out a day trip to Pula. Here you will find the famous Roman Arena, pleasant streets and the beautiful Kamenjak nature reserve. This nature park has many beaches and places where you can cliff jump!

Take a day trip to Bale
Less than a 20-minute drive from Rovinj lies Bale. During your drive, you will pass through beautiful surroundings with olive trees interspersed with vineyards. No wonder you can get good wines and the best olive oil here! In addition, you can take a stroll through the town and enjoy a drink at Kamene Price Jazz Bar.
