The 9 best beaches on Milos, Greece

Milos is a small island and is often combined with Santorini and Paros during the island hopping through Greece. Despite its small size, it has the most beaches of all the Cyclades islands. We share the best beaches with you!

Tip LightTip: Check out our blog Milos sights for more cool sights including a handy map.

1. Sarakiniko Beach

This is definitely our favourite and is definitely number one. Sarakiniko Beach is known for its unique moon-like landscape. Despite only having a small stretch of sandy beach, it is a popular destination and once you are there you will understand exactly why. The unique white volcanic rocks combined with the azure waters are truly impressive.

Besides, it doesn't matter when you go. During the day it is a bit busier, but perfect for jumping off the cliffs into the water. At sunrise and sunset, the sky colours and it is usually a lot quieter.

2. Kleftiko beach

In the southwest of the island you will find Kleftiko Beach. This part of the island can only be reached by boat but it is definitely worth the effort. You will find high cliffs, sea caves and clear blue waters which you will undoubtedly find on Instagram or Pinterest passing by.

The highlight of the boat trip is Kleftiko, where huge white rock formations rise straight out of the sea. This area offers dozens of small and large sea caves and is perfect for snorkelling and diving. Several organisations offer boat trips to this beautiful spot, so you have plenty of choice!

3. Firopotamos Beach

Definitely not the prettiest beach but if you have already visited most of the sights on Milos, consider a stop at Firopatamos Beach. Located in a beautiful bay, this small beach is surrounded by colourful boathouses. Although the clear waters look inviting, we found this to be the least pleasant beach on Milos, as the sand consists mainly of small pebbles.

4. Paliochori Beach

A beach known to many. You will find several restaurants where you can easily order some food or drinks from your lounger. In addition, we understand that this is the best beach to go to when there is a strong wind. This is because here you are somewhat sheltered!

5. Papafragas Beach and Caves

Papafragas is not only one of the most beautiful beaches on Milos, but also a particularly unique place because of the caves you can swim under. This beach actually consists of two parts, one of which is just a bit more accessible than the other. The beach is quite narrow and popular, so we recommend arriving early in the morning. With several places to jump into the clear water and explore the caves, this is a must-see.

6. Firiplaka Beach

This beach is perfect to combine with Tsigrado Beach as they are close to each other. It is a wide sandy beach and the sea is shallow for a large part. So it is ideal for a beach day with children. There is a beach bar with sun beds but unfortunately it has a lot of bad reviews on Google.

7. Tsigrado Beach

Our favourite after Sarakiniko beach is Tsigrado Beach also known as ‘The Ladder Beach’. This small beach is secluded and you can only reach it via 2 steep ladders. So you have to put in some effort, but it is definitely worth it. It feels like a ‘secret’ beach, despite its popularity, and is surrounded by rocks and clear blue water

8. Thiorichia Beach (Old Sulfur Mines)

The beach itself is not so special but the surroundings are! This is because you will find an old abandoned mine that you can walk through. Keep in mind that this beach is not easily accessible by scooter. We recommend visiting this beach by quat/ATV or car.

9. Alogomandra Beach

Is a beautiful white/yellow sand beach near the town of Agios Konstantinos. This beach was recommended to us as a lesser-known beach. Often only a few people lie here and you can quietly enjoy the clear blue water and small sea caves. The downside, however, is that you can find quite a lot of seaweed and at high tide the beach completely disappears. We therefore see it as the perfect stop for a short swim and a delicious lunch!

All the beaches on Milos are relatively close together, making it easy to combine them. Most places are easy to reach by car, ATV or scooter. Just keep in mind that you have to drive on unpaved roads for certain stretches.
