Besides, there are some other important things to know before visiting Lago di Braies in Italy. Read all our tips!
General information on Italy
Are you planning a holiday to Italy? Then check out our tips for the best route, the best travel period, and transport to and in Italy.
Transport to Lago di Braies
It is best to visit the Plitvice Lakes by car or motorhome. This is by far the easiest.
Tip: Don't have your own transport? Opt for renting a motorhome or a car! Keep in mind that you should always use a well-known rental company such as Sunnycars.co.uk, Wildcampers.co.uk or Camptoo.co.uk. Read more in our blog by motorhome through Europe.
If you prefer not to hire a car, you can also take a bus to Lagos di Braies. Just bear in mind that the earliest you can get there is 8.30am.
Parking: There are several car parks at Lago di Braies. If you are early you can park right next to the lake. However, spaces in this car park are limited. We were there so early that we didn't pay anything. However, we understood from friends that you normally pay about € 6,- paid per visit.
Tip: During the summer months (high season 10 July - 10 September), the access road is closed between 10:00 and 15:00. This means you have to park in Ferrara. This car park is about 6 kilometres from Lago di Braies. You can then travel to the lake by shuttle bus. If you are at the lake before 10:00, you can just drive through and return later.
** Always check the Official website of Lago di Braies Whether these rules still apply. If anything has changed, we'd love to hear about it!

What to do when Lake Braies | Pragser Wildsee, Italy.
Chances are you have seen a picture of this beautiful lake passing by on Pinterest or Instagram. It is a well-known spot in Italy, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Normally, we are not such fans of these kinds of tourist spots but this area is really incredibly impressive.
Watch the sunrise at Lago di Braies
As mentioned above; we recommend setting your alarm early! Besides being incredibly quiet in the early morning hours, watching the sunrise at Lago di Braies is highly recommended. We were at the lake around 7am and we were there with max 6 other early risers! Besides, it is the perfect photo opportunity as the boats are still quiet in the water.
Tip: Would you also like to go around the lake in a rowing boat? Then keep in mind that the boathouse only opens around 9:00.
Opt for a boat ride on the lake.
Don't just want to photograph the rowing boats? Then opt for a tour of the lake. Boats can be hired from the boathouse at the waterfront.
Price: €19 (30 minutes) or €28 (60 minutes).
Opening hours: 9:00.

Walk around Lake Lagos di Braies
We recommend you don't just stay at the beginning of the lake. A walk around the lake takes about an hour but there are several routes to choose from. The routes are well marked with wooden signs. These signs also tell you how long the different routes are.
Tip: Especially in the morning, it can be quite cold. We recommend you dress warmly.
