Visa Thailand FAQ
Do I need a visa for Thailand?
Dutch and Belgian travellers have as tourists no visa required. Upon arrival in Thailand, you will receive a tourist visa (visa-on-arrival) for a stay of 60 days.
Note: From 2025 onwards, you will be required to use the Thailand Digital Arrival Card complete via the website of the Thai Immigration Department (information in English). This can be done from 3 days before arrival in Thailand.
Do you want to stay longer in Thailand or come for a purpose other than holidays? Then you need to arrange a visa at the Thai embassy or an intermediary such as the Royal Dutch Touring Club and e-visum.co.uk. Clear and up-to-date information can be found at the website of the Thai embassy in The Hague.
Thailand visa on arrival: what exactly is it like?
If you go to Thailand and stay there for up to 60 days, then provided you have a Dutch or Belgian passport, you are entitled to a visa-free visit. You will then receive a stamp in your passport on arrival stating the latest date you have to leave. It is important that you can prove that you will leave Thailand again within those 60 days. You can do this by showing your plane ticket or transit ticket, for example. Keep in mind that your passport has to be valid for at least 6 months.
Note: From 2025 onwards, you will be required to use the Thailand Digital Arrival Card complete via the website of the Thai Immigration Department (information in English). This can be done from 3 days before arrival in Thailand.
How can I arrange my visa to Thailand online?
You can easily arrange your visa online. Why is this convenient? Because you can only apply for a visa for Thailand at the Thai embassy in The Hague or at the Consulate of Thailand in Amsterdam (don't forget your passport). This is not convenient for everyone and besides, you have to visit twice.
Arranging a visa online is also easy, safe and fast. There are several options online but we recommend the following two parties. The reason is because we have heard many positive stories about these two parties.
1. Visa application through the Royal Dutch Touring Club.
ANWB cooperates with VisaCentrale.com. You can hand in your documents at an ANWB point and they will handle the rest. Then you can come and collect your visa.
2. Visa application through intermediaries such as e-visum.co.uk.
Mediators such as e-visum.nl arrange everything around your Thai visa application. You pay safely with Ideal and customer service will help you with any questions.
With either party, you can apply for a visa for up to 60 days. Want to stay longer? Then you will have to do a visa run in Thailand or drop by the Immigration Office. Keep in mind that you need to arrange an application no later than 2 weeks before your departure.
Retrieved from the website of the Thai embassy in The Hague you will find a list of all the documents you need for your visa.
Note: From 2025 onwards, you will be required to use the Thailand Digital Arrival Card complete via the website of the Thai Immigration Department (information in English). This can be done from 3 days before arrival in Thailand.
How can I extend my visa for Thailand?
You can extend your visa to Thailand in 2 ways. Keep in mind that you can do this once.
1. Extend visa in Thailand
If, for whatever reason, you want to stay longer in Thailand, you will need to extend your visa or your 60-day visa-free entry. You can do this in Thailand at an Immigration Office, which are available in major cities. Do this on time though and don't wait until the last minute.
2. Visa run: Extend your visa to Thailand for free!
The above all sounds like ‘a lot of hassle’ and not everyone feels like it. That is why there is another way you can ‘extend’ your visa. When your 30-day visa-free entry expires, you can do a visa run. This means that you leave Thailand for less than a day or a short period of time, so that you cross the border briefly. You will then receive a new passport stamp and a visa-on-arrival for Thailand.
You can choose to leave Thailand for an extended period, as the neighbouring countries are also beautiful, but it is in fact not necessary. Your best option is Malaysia or Cambodia. This may sound exciting but it is not. From major cities like Bangkok, special tours are offered daily to one of these countries. The aim is to get you back as quickly as possible. Going to southern Thailand? Then we recommend doing a visa run anyway.
What documents do I need for my visa application?
There are different types of visas you can apply for Thailand. This means that we cannot give you one clear answer to this. For a complete overview we advise you to visit the website of the Thai embassy in The Hague to go. Here it explains which documents you need for each visa.
Note: From 2025 onwards, you will be required to use the Thailand Digital Arrival Card complete via the website of the Thai Immigration Department (information in English). This can be done from 3 days before arrival in Thailand.
What does a visa for Thailand cost and what is the delivery time?
A visa for Thailand is available from €69.95 per person on the website of e-visum.co.uk. At ANWB, this price is not directly visible online. However, you should note there that in addition to the visa and service fees (depending on the application), you also pay shipping costs (€25,- value transport) per shipment.
It takes at e-visum.co.uk minimum 4 working days to complete visa. This applies to a tourist visa or business visa. However, it is recommended to start this process at least 2 weeks in advance. The latter also applies to the ANWB. If you have less than 2 weeks, we advise you to contact customer service first.
Other conditions for your visit to Thailand
If you opt for a single-entry visa to Thailand, there are a few other things to consider:
- Single-entry is only allowed for business and tourist (holiday) travel.
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months on arrival.
- Your passport contains at least two blank facing pages.
- If you opt for a single-entry visa, you can enter Thailand once. After this, you will have to apply for a new visa.

- Note: From 2025 onwards, you will be required to use the Thailand Digital Arrival Card complete via the website of the Thai Immigration Department (information in English). This can be done from 3 days before arrival in Thailand.
