Dutch airports are immensely popular with travellers, with many flying from Schiphol Airport, Eindhoven Airport or Rotterdam Airport. Slightly less known are the Belgian and German airports, even though they are very conveniently located for some Dutch people. Why choose Cologne airport?

You may be wondering: “Why from the airport in Cologne fly, when I can also just fly from a Dutch airport?”. A big advantage is that it is often a bit quieter than at big airports like Schiphol or Düsseldorf Airport. This makes it more manageable and you start your holiday more relaxed. People fly day and night from this airport, while this is not the case at other German and Dutch airports. This is also due to the fact that Cologne Airport is widely used for landing cargo planes.

Destinations

Furthermore, you don't have to compromise on the number of destinations as it flies to 129 destinations across 31 countries. Plenty to choose from! To popular holiday countries such as Italy, Greece, Turkey and Spain is flown daily from the airport in Cologne. There are also a wide variety of destinations. Just think of Alanya, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Naples, Pisa, Venice, Athens, Heraklion and Santorini.

At the airport

Like any airport, Cologne Airport has plenty of restaurants and shops for its travellers. Divided between the two terminals, you can find the well-known fast-food restaurants such as McDonalds and Burger King. But the Starbucks also has a location in terminal 1.

Parking

Most travellers choose to get to the airport by car. This is easy with luggage and is often the fastest way to travel. Do you also want to arrive by car? Then it is wise to book a parking space online with a reliable provider. This will ensure that your car is safely parked during your holiday. The Cologne airport parking is very cheap and convenient. You often park in combination with shuttle service, where you are taken to the terminal by shuttle bus after parking.

Additional guidance or help

If you are travelling alone with young children or if you are very insecure or anxious, it is possible to book extra assistance at the airport. For €50.00 you will be accompanied to and from the gate, where you will be helped from security to the waiting area at the gate. On your return, you will also be escorted from the baggage carousel back to the exit.

If you are travelling with heavy or extra-large luggage, such as skis or a surfboard, you can book the so-called porter service. Here, you pay a few euros per luggage on top of the employee service fee of €40.00 per 30 minutes. At the terminal, the luggage is unloaded from the car and transported to the check-in desk. The employee helps with checking in the luggage and on return the luggage is also taken off the belt and taken to the exit.

VIP Service

Do you want to go on holiday extremely relaxed? Then choose Cologne Airport's VIP Service. With this service, you do not have to check in at the main terminal, but at the General Aviation Terminal. There are no long queues here and you don't have to walk far. You can check in just one hour in advance and will be taken directly to the plane. There is a special vip lounge with snacks and drinks where you can wait to enter the plane. This service is ideal if you don't want to wait and value extra discretion. For a flight, this costs a minimum of €120.00 for a separate check-in and transfer to the plane by limousine or €220.00 including snacks and drinks in the lounge area for 3 hours.
