Are you planning your trip to Curaçao? Then check out our tips for the best travel period, daily budget and climate. You will find all information about Curaçao here.

Practical tips and information about supermarkets on Curaçao

  • Buy local produce: These are often cheaper than imported products. Groceries in Curaçao are generally more expensive than in the Netherlands so take the time to look at local products.
  • Pay close attention to the expiry date: Always check the expiry date, especially for products like meat and dairy.
  • Help the packing staff or pack your own groceries: At the checkout, there are often people ready to pack your groceries and carry them to your car. Give them a small tip as a thank you or pack your groceries yourself if you don't want to.
  • Shopping service: Are you arriving by plane very early or very late, or haven't got a rental car at your disposal, it might be useful to see if your accommodation offers a shopping service. In addition to the amount of groceries, this service often costs between €15 - €30.

Below is our handy Supermarket Curacao list of the 6 best supermarkets. When you click on the address you will be redirected to the location on Google Maps. Are we missing a supermarket you would recommend to others? Let us know via Instagram!

1. Mangusa Hypermarket

Surely our favourite is Mangusa Hypermarket. This supermarket has a huge assortment with relatively low prices, and it almost feels like you are stepping into a wholesale store. Besides, this supermarket has been rated as one of the best several times in the Curaçao Consumer Association.

2. Carrefour Curaçao

You might know the well-known Carrefour supermarket chain from other European countries such as France. Since 2019, you will also find one in Curaçao's Sambil Shopping Mall. It is known for its diversity and quality. Enjoying an evening ’at home’ drinks? Then this is the place to be! Because for a cheeseboard and a good wine, this is the place to be. They also have a good bread department here, making this supermarket not to be missed on our Supermarket Curaçao list.

3. Bon Biini Supermarket

Bon Biini Supermarket is a local favourite and has been tipped to us several times. Unfortunately, we were not able to check here ourselves but for a quick errand, this seems like the perfect supermarket. This supermarket is known for its good service and good prices, making it a popular choice among locals and tourists alike.

4. Centre Supermarket

Centrum supermarket has two locations, in Mahaai and Piscadera, and offers a wide range of good quality products. In addition, these two supermarkets have been rated among the best several times in the Curaçao Consumer Association. On the go? Then check out the location in Piscadera, as it is located on the route to the beaches of Westpunt.

5. Luna Park Maxi Market

Besides the regular supermarkets, there are also many Chinese tokos in Curaçao. Luna Park Maxi Market is one of the larger tokos with a wide range and competitive prices. Extra handy: they are open until late, ideal for last-minute shopping.

6. Van den Tweel Supermarket

These supermarkets are certainly not the cheapest but should not be missed on the supermarket Curaçao list because here you can get all your favourite Dutch products. However, due to import costs, prices are higher than you are used to. There are two locations: a smaller shop in Jan Thiel and a larger one in Zeelandia.

Shopping on Curaçao can be different from what you are used to. Many products are imported, resulting in higher prices than in the Netherlands. In addition, you will find a mix of international brands and local specialities. It is therefore smart to try local products, which are often cheaper and fresher. Think tropical fruit, local cheeses, or fresh fish from the Caribbean sea.

  • Markets and local shops: Also be sure to visit a local market such as the Marshe Bieuw in Willemstad for fresh vegetables, fruit and handicrafts.
  • Special dietary requirements: For special foods (gluten-free, organic), supply is limited, so check in advance which shops have it.
  • Water: Always drink bottled water, as the tap water is not suitable for direct drinking in many places.
