Of course, you are going to have an unforgettable trip but we would like to prepare you well.
This is because travel insurance will help you if you incur unexpected costs, such as damage or necessary assistance. For example, do you need to book an extra night in a hotel because your flight was cancelled? Then your travel insurance will cover these costs. Continuous travel insurance
The name says it a bit but a continuous travel insurance policy offers year-round cover, both abroad and during domestic trips with an overnight stay. The big advantage of this is that you don't have to take out a new policy for each individual holiday. This is not only convenient, but can also save costs in the long run. Since we travel regularly ourselves, we have continuous travel insurance. This way, we don't have to think about this every time.
Short-term travel insurance
Short-term travel insurance offers the same coverage as continuous insurance, but only for the specific period of your trip. You take out this insurance separately for each holiday, from departure to return home. So the main difference is in the duration of the cover. If you go away for a weekend, for instance, you only insure yourself for those specific days. So the biggest advantage of this insurance is that you are optimally insured, but you do not have to pay a premium every month.
Tip: Keep in mind that trips without an overnight stay within the Netherlands are not covered by travel insurance. For unexpected expenses during a day trip, you usually need contents insurance with out-of-home coverage.
Supplement your policy with extra insurance
We understand that you would like a travel insurance policy that suits your specific travel style. If certain items are not covered by the standard coverage, you can add extra options. For example, we had our camera bag additionally insured.
In addition, you may need to extend your cover to world coverage, depending on your destination. We have set world coverage by default, but this is obviously not necessary if you stay within Europe. We recommend that you always purchase insurance from reliable organisations such as those at Nationale Nederlanden or other major parties. Choosing a reliable insurer ensures that you are well covered in case of unforeseen circumstances. In addition, they are often accessible in multiple ways which means you can be confident that someone will help you if something goes wrong during your trip.
Tip: Insurance is often offered while booking a flight or package holiday. If you are already well insured, it is usually not necessary to take out additional insurances. Always check whether these additional insurances are really necessary, so that you are not unnecessarily double insured!
Which option suits you best?
So the choice between continuous and short-term travel insurance depends mainly on your travel habits. If you only go on holiday once a year, short-term travel insurance is often the most economical choice. However, if you travel several times a year, then a take out continuous travel insurance usually cheaper and more convenient.
