Zrmanja Canyon viewpoint

Despite all the sights and highlights in this Croatia blog being in random order, Zrmanja Canyon viewpoint surely one of our favourites. This unique location in Croatia is not so well known yet while it is ideal to combine with other attractions. In fact, Zrmanja Canyon is about a 45-minute drive from the city of Zadar, 50 minutes from Tulove Grede and 60 minutes of Krka National Park. You can easily park your car at the beginning of the road and the view is insane.

Tulove Grede

Tulove Grede is located in the national park called Sjeverni Velebit. It is a short hike of about 1.5 hours to the top of Tulove Grede. You can leave your car park here, near the starting point. Please note that the road to this parking area is not asphalted. Read more information and practical tips in our blog Tulove Grede.

Rovinj

This quaint and romantic town was once an island but has grown attached to the mainland over the years. Because Rovinj has been an island for centuries, it has escaped Croatia's devastation and looting. And this is clear to see. The centre is a maze of narrow streets and coloured facades which gives it a cosy atmosphere. It also has a harbour full of colourful boats, which are surrounded by a clear blue sea. Visit villages such as Balé

Between all the big and famous tourist places, you have endless small villages like Balé. If you go from Rovinj to Pula drives, Balé is a perfect stopover. Get a good bottle of olive oil here, enjoy a local wine on the terrace and walk through the old town. Absolutely recommended!

Amphitheatre in Pula

Pula's amphitheatre, you definitely cannot and should not miss. It is without doubt the city's most impressive building. Today it is a popular venue that attracts many visitors every year. You can walk around the building or enter for around €10. Read more about Pula.

Kamenjak National Park

This is a special place in the south of the Istria region and therefore perfect to combine with Pula. The park has many beautiful beaches, coves and cliffs to jump from. You will also find many hiking trails and mountain bike routes where information boards will tell you more about the area.

Plitvice National Park

A Unesco World Heritage Site, Plitvice National Park consists of 16 beautiful green lakes connected by waterfalls. It is a must see during your tour of Croatia. Read more about Plitvice lakes.

Krka National Park

Another well-known national park in Croatia is Krka National Park. Here you will find dozens of metres wide and high waterfalls flowing into beautiful green lakes. The park is huge so most people only visit the south. This is a shame because there is so much more! Read all about Krka National Park.

Krk peninsula

This northern island can be reached via a long bridge, which is accessible for free during renovations. Highlights on this island include Krk town, Vrbnik and Baska. We spent most of our time in Baska. This is a place in the west of the island and completely geared towards tourists. You'll find vast beaches, shops, restaurants, hotels & campsites here.

Izvor Cetina

The last highlight is the Izvor Cetina. This place is not so well known yet and you won't encounter many tourists there. The surroundings are not that spectacular but what makes this place so special is the underground gorge filled with clear blue water. Exactly how deep the gorge is they do not know to this day, but they have come to 115 metres.
