The 9 most beautiful beaches on Milos: which ones should you not miss?

Sarakiniko Beach was without a doubt our favourite spot on Milos. We’d of course seen dozens of photos of the white rocks and the clear blue water beforehand, but to be honest, we found it even more impressive in real life. What we particularly liked about Sarakiniko is that it’s much more than just a beach. You can swim here, walk across the rocks, jump off the cliffs and wander endlessly along the various coves. As a result, we ended up spending much longer here than we’d originally planned.

Although Sarakiniko is one of the most popular spots on Milos, we didn’t find it felt overcrowded at all. That’s because the area is much larger than you might think from photos. This means you can easily find a quiet spot to enjoy the view or take a dip in the clear water. If we ever go back to Milos, Sarakiniko will undoubtedly be at the top of our list again.

Sarakiniko is one of the most popular spots on Milos. We therefore recommend visiting early in the morning or at sunset. It can get quite busy around midday, especially in July and August. We found sunrise and sunset to be the best times for photography.

Sarakiniko Beach actually has very few facilities, but that’s part of the charm of this special place. There’s a car park, a few places to grab a bite to eat in high season and, of course, various spots for swimming. There are no showers, a beach bar or a restaurant here. Nor are there any sun loungers for hire. So be sure to bring plenty of water, a towel and, if you like, a parasol if you plan to spend a few hours here.

Sarakiniko is about a 10-minute drive from Adamas and is easily accessible by scooter, quad bike or car. There is a car park right next to the beach, so you don’t have to walk far. Sarakiniko can also be reached by bus during the high season, but having your own transport gives you much more flexibility.

Right, to be honest, we didn’t go on the boat trip because we were unlucky with the weather. Fortunately, some friends of ours did go on the boat trip and they thought it was one of the highlights of Milos. They said even the boat trip there alone was worth it. On the way, you sail past rugged cliffs, hidden coves and secluded stretches of coastline that you could never reach from the road.

If you’re only going to go on one boat trip during your stay on Milos, then we would, without a doubt, recommend a trip to Kleftiko choose.

As Kleftiko is only accessible by boat, you’ll be dependent on the departure times of the excursions. Most boat trips set off in the morning and arrive at Kleftiko around midday. Would you prefer to avoid the crowds? Then opt for a smaller sailing trip or catamaran instead of a large excursion boat.

Don’t expect any beach bars, restaurants, shops or other facilities such as toilets and showers here. Instead, it’s all about nature, the crystal-clear water and the spectacular rock formations. It’s a great place to swim, snorkel amongst the sea caves and explore the coastline from the water. For us, Tsigrado Beach was one of the best beaches on Milos because the experience begins even before you’ve actually reached the beach. When we stood at the top of the cliffs and saw the ladders hanging there, we have to admit we had a bit of a laugh. It felt more like we were about to discover a hidden beach than heading off for a normal day at the beach.

Fortunately, the descent is less nerve-wracking than many photos suggest. As long as you take it slowly and wear sturdy shoes, it’s perfectly manageable. Once we were down, we were instantly won over. The water was perhaps the clearest we’d seen on Milos, and the sheltered bay means it’s often wonderfully peaceful for a swim.

We recommend visiting Tsigrado early in the morning. The beach is relatively small and can get quite busy during the high season. If you arrive between 08:00 and 10:00, you’ll often still have plenty of space to find a nice spot and can enjoy the clear water in peace and quiet. It also tends to get quieter towards the end of the afternoon, when many day-trippers have already left.

Tsigrado Beach is largely a natural beach, and that is precisely what makes this place so special. You won’t find any restaurants, beach bars, shops, toilets or showers here. However, there is a car park a short walk from the beach, and the crystal-clear water is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. There are no sun loungers either, which we personally think is part of Tsigrado’s charm.

Do bear in mind, however, that there is virtually no shade to be found. The sun can be quite intense here, especially during the hot summer months. You should therefore bring plenty of water, snacks, sun cream and, if possible, a parasol if you plan to spend a few hours here.

Tsigrado Beach is situated on the southern side of Milos, close to Firiplaka Beach, and can be reached by scooter, quad bike or car. From the car park, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the beach entrance. You then descend to the bay via a narrow passageway and two ladders. Are you travelling with young children or do you find climbing difficult? If so, Firiplaka Beach is probably a better option.

To us, Paliochori felt like the most relaxing beach on Milos. Whilst we mainly went to Tsigrado or Kleftiko for the adventure, this was a place where you could easily spend a whole afternoon relaxing. We particularly loved the combination of the colourful cliffs and the crystal-clear water. It’s also one of the few beaches where you can turn up without any prior planning. Rent a sun lounger, order a drink and enjoy the sun. The beach is larger than many others on Milos, so you can easily find a spot even in high season!

Paliochori is lovely all day long, but the colours of the cliffs are particularly impressive in the morning. For a full day at the beach, this is one of the best beaches on Milos.

Paliochori Beach is one of the best-equipped beaches on Milos when it comes to facilities. You’ll find several restaurants and beach bars here where you can enjoy lunch, a drink or dinner with a sea view. There are also toilets on site, and you can park easily right by the beach. Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire, making Paliochori an ideal spot to spend a whole day at the beach without having to bring much with you.

To us, Firopotamos felt like one of the most authentic places on Milos. Whilst some beaches are best known for their scenery or facilities, here it’s all about the atmosphere. As we drove into the bay, we were immediately struck by the contrast between the white cottages, the colourful doors and the bright blue water.

We also found this to be one of the quietest beaches amongst the better-known spots on Milos. As a result, we ended up spending much longer here than we’d planned. There’s a particularly relaxed atmosphere towards the end of the afternoon, when you can see locals enjoying the water. For photography enthusiasts, this is without a doubt one of the most beautiful spots on the island. Almost every corner offers a new view.

The morning is ideal for taking photos, as the sun shines beautifully across the bay at that time. Would you rather just swim and relax? If so, we found the afternoon to be the most pleasant. It’s often quieter and the temperature is a little more comfortable.

Firopotamos Beach is a relatively quiet and unspoilt beach with limited facilities. There is a car park, and the clear water makes it a lovely spot for swimming or snorkelling. However, you won’t find any large beach bars, showers or restaurants right on the beach here. Nor are there any sun loungers or extensive beach facilities. As far as we’re concerned, that’s precisely what adds to the charm of Firopotamos. It makes the bay feel authentic, peaceful and less touristy than some of the other beaches on Milos.

Firopotamos is about a 15-minute drive from Adamas and is easily accessible by scooter, car or quad bike. Please bear in mind that the final stretch of the road is a bit narrow.

We found Papafragas particularly impressive because of the view. The beach itself is relatively small and, depending on the weather, can sometimes be difficult to reach. Nevertheless, we thought it was definitely worth a stop on our tour of Milos.

We recommend arriving early in the morning or late in the afternoon. It can get quite busy at the viewpoint around midday.

Papafragas Beach and Caves has no facilities. There is a car park, and from the viewpoint you have a magnificent view of the impressive bay and the white rock formations. There are no restaurants, beach bars, toilets, showers or sun loungers here. We therefore recommend bringing plenty of water with you, especially on hot days. Many visitors come to Papafragas mainly for the spectacular views and its unique setting amongst the rocks, which means you usually don’t spend a whole day at the beach here but rather make a short stop during a tour of Milos.

Papafragas is situated on the north coast of Milos and is easily accessible by scooter, quad bike or car. From the car park, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the viewpoint.

During our trip to Milos, we found Firiplaka to be one of the nicest beaches to really spend a few hours on. Although Firiplaka is popular, the beach feels spacious enough that you never feel as though you’re on top of other visitors. That’s precisely why we’d recommend Firiplaka to travellers looking for a lovely day at the beach on Milos.

Firiplaka is actually lovely all day long. If you want to avoid the biggest crowds, we recommend arriving before 10.00. The morning hours are often the best for photography, as the sun shines beautifully on the cliffs at that time.

Firiplaka Beach is a beach with plenty of facilities. You’ll find a beach bar, parking facilities and a range of sun loungers and parasols available for hire. There’s also plenty of space for visitors who prefer to bring their own towel and find a quiet spot on the beach. There aren’t any large restaurants right on the beach, but it’s a great spot for a drink or a light snack. There are no showers, so it’s worth bearing this in mind if you’re planning to spend a whole day on the beach.

Thiorichia felt to us like one of the most special places on Milos. Not because it has the most beautiful beach, but because the atmosphere here is completely different from anywhere else on the island. When we arrived, we almost felt as though we’d stumbled into a deserted film set. What we particularly liked was that there was hardly anyone there. Whilst some beaches on Milos can get quite busy, here we felt as though we’d discovered a hidden gem. For travellers who love unique locations, we’d definitely recommend this place.

We found the morning ideal. The light is lovely for photos at that time of day and the temperatures are still pleasant. What’s more, the roads leading to the beach can get quite dusty during the day because of the heat.

Thiorichia Beach is one of the most remote beaches on Milos and there are no facilities there. So you won’t find any restaurants, beach bars, shops, toilets or showers here. We recommend bringing plenty of water, snacks and sun cream if you plan to spend a few hours here. There is also very little natural shade, so a cap, hat or parasol is no luxury on hot days.

The beach can be reached by quad bike or car. We went there on a scooter and would advise against it! The final stretch is an unpaved track with huge potholes and stones. So do drive carefully, whether you’re in a car or on a quad bike.

Alogomandra was one of the biggest surprises of Milos for us. We actually arrived here without any expectations, and that’s precisely why we enjoyed it so much. It was a lot quieter here than on the other beaches, and we ended up spending a few hours here. For travellers who like to visit lesser-known spots, Alogomandra is definitely worth a visit.

The morning is ideal if you want to make the most of the peace and quiet. In the afternoon, the cave also provides extra shade, which can be very pleasant on hot days. Please note that at high tide, the beach disappears completely.

There are no facilities at Alogomandra Beach. We recommend that you bring plenty of water, snacks and sun cream if you plan to spend a few hours here.

Alogomandra is situated on the north coast of Milos and is easily accessible by scooter, car or quad bike. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the car park to the beach.

If you only visit one beach on Milos, make it Sarakiniko Beach. This is without a doubt the most extraordinary spot on the island. The white volcanic rocks make it feel as though you’ve landed on the moon. We visited this spot several times during our trip because the landscape changes throughout the day. We found this place particularly magical at sunrise and sunset.

Aren’t you afraid of a bit of adventure? If not, Tsigrado Beach is probably your favourite beach on Milos. To reach the beach, you have to make your way through a narrow passage and descend two ladders towards the water. The journey there alone makes it an experience in itself. Once you’re down there, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning bay full of crystal-clear blue water.

Firiplaka Beach is one of the most accessible beaches on Milos. The beach is wide, consists mainly of sand and slopes gently into the sea. This makes it a great choice for families with children. There are also sun loungers, a beach bar and plenty of space to relax all day long.

Kleftiko is perhaps the most beautiful spot on Milos for snorkelling. The enormous white rock formations, sea caves and crystal-clear water make this a paradise for lovers of the underwater world. As Kleftiko can only be reached by boat, a visit feels all the more special.

Are you looking for a beach where you won’t be lying shoulder to shoulder with other holidaymakers? Then Alogomandra Beach is a good choice. This relatively unknown beach is tucked away amongst the rocks and has a much quieter atmosphere than the island’s popular beaches.

Are you looking for a beach where you can easily spend the whole day? If so, we recommend Paliochori Beach. Here you’ll find sun loungers, restaurants, parking and various facilities. It’s ideal if you mainly want to relax without having to organise too much.
