Travelling from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi by boat
Although Phuket is connected to the mainland by a bridge and also has an international airport, you can only reach Koh Phi Phi by boat. Several boats depart daily from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi, mainly from the Rassada Pier in the southeast of the island.
Options range from fast speedboats to traditional ferries. Travel time and prices depend on the type of boat you choose. A ticket for a fast speedboat usually costs around €30, while you can travel on a regular ferry from as little as €13. Many companies offer combination tickets, picking you up from your hotel in Phuket and taking you directly to the pier. This not only saves time, but is often cheaper than arranging your own transport to the port.
Tip: Do you have a tight schedule or like to book everything in advance? Then we recommend you book your ticket in advance during busy periods through a website such as 12GoAsia or Getyourguide. This way, you are guaranteed a place and can enjoy your trip without stress!
Departure times and Boat tickets from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi
As indicated, boats go from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi daily, at different times. So you have plenty of choice. You can easily order your tickets online at 12GoAsia or Getyourguide, at the Phuket port, at one of the many travel agencies or through your hotel. Ask for current departure times right away too and choose one that fits your itinerary!
If you are short on time, a day tour to the island is also a good option. This allows you to see all the highlights of the island in one day. Still, we recommend staying a few days, as there is so much more to explore. So you can choose between a day tour, a return ticket or a single journey, depending on your plans.
Please note that the travel time is about 2 hours. Do you get seasick easily? If so, this can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent it. In the Netherlands, you can buy pills at the drugstore that help reduce nausea. In addition, there are acupressure bracelets available from online shops such as Bol.com. These have a button that applies pressure to a specific point on your wrist, which can limit motion sickness.
Our favourite travel games when we have to wait!
Yes... unfortunately, in Asia it can happen that a boat suddenly leaves half an hour later. So this is the reason we always bring some easy and fun games with us!
As you've probably already realised, we love card games. It's by far the easiest to carry around & therefore perfect while travelling. Because let's face it, unfolding a whole board is not ideal & searching for dice between chairs or in the sand is not very conducive to the atmosphere either. Pick your favourite and you're sure to have a fun trip! Want more inspiration check out our blog 14x Great travel games for 2 people or 20x mini games | Perfect travel gifts.
