General information on Malaysia

Are you working on a travel plan for Malaysia? Then check out our tips for the best travel period, the budget and transport within Malaysia. You can find all information on Malaysia here.

1. Travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi by plane

The fastest and most popular way to get from Kuala Lumpur to travel to Langkawi is by plane. Several flights depart daily from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Langkawi International Airport and tickets are easily booked through 12GoAsia.

Several airlines, such as AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air, offer direct flights. For a plane ticket, you often pay between €30 and €65, depending on how early you book and in which period you travel. The flight takes just 1 hour, although you will of course spend some extra travel time due to check-in, boarding, etc.

2. Travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi by bus and boat

If you prefer not to fly, this is a good alternative. Just keep in mind that the journey takes considerably longer, so we ourselves would not choose this option any time soon

Take a bus from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan in Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis (travel time about 6-7 hours). Tickets cost on average between €10 and €15. From Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis, then take the ferry to Langkawi (€8).

→ Book your bus and boat tickets easily and quickly with 12GoAsia.

3. Travel from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi by train, taxi and boat

The last option is to take the train from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Star, a ride of about five hours. Trains in Malaysia are comfortable and affordable, making this option attractive if you prefer not to fly. Just keep in mind that this route will take you considerably longer. Moreover, due to the combination of train, taxi and boat, the cost may be higher than a plane ticket.

From the train station in Alor Star, take a taxi to the Kuala Kedah Jetty, where you catch the ferry to Langkawi. Including transfers and waiting times, the total travel time can be quite long. Still, this is a nice option if you want to see more of the Malaysian landscape during your trip to Langkawi.

Our favourite travel games on the go!

When travelling, you will often have to wait: for your flight after checking in, during a long bus journey or on the boat. That's why we always take some easy and fun games with us!

As you've probably already realised, we love card games. It's by far the easiest to carry around & therefore perfect while travelling. Because let's face it, unfolding a whole board is not ideal & searching for dice between chairs or in the sand is not very conducive to the atmosphere either. These two are definitely not our only favourites. Want more inspiration?
