How long is the flight to Thailand?
Thailand is a lot bigger (13x bigger) than the Netherlands, covering an area of over 513,000 square kilometres. So the flight time depends on the airport you choose. We will assume for a moment that you arrive in Bangkok. You will then fly to the international airport called Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Flight time to Bangkok is about 11 hours for a direct flight. If you choose a flight with a stopover or transfer, you will be on the road a bit longer. The return flight is often an hour longer, around 12 hours.
How do you make sure you don't drive each other or yourself crazy during a long plane journey?
Then what do you do for 11 hours I hear you think! We can have long conversations together but we can't keep this up for 11 hours. We therefore always try to sleep on the plane so that you arrive in Thailand somewhat refreshed. But how do you do that with a crying baby or coughing fellow passenger? Yes... we have unfortunately already experienced all forms of irritation once.
We have therefore acquired some items in recent years that we recommend to everyone! Some are additionally ideal for home. So it's a win-win situation and you are guaranteed to thank us.
A neck pillow. We flew without a neck pillow for several years but now we balk when we forgot them. Do you, like us, go backpacken? Then we recommend you make one good investment in an inflatable.
Headphones or earphones. We have had samsung earphones with noise cancelling for several years now. Ideal for disconnecting for a while and perfect for annoying fellow passengers. I (Gwen) have also had the Sony WH-1000XM3 for a year now. Fantastic thing and absolutely worth the money!
A water bottle. While flying, you dry out quickly. We too hate the toilet on the plane but we still try to fill our water bottle twice every flight. Besides, it's also not an unnecessary luxury in Thailand itself.
A Powerbank. We ourselves use the Anker PowerCore Powerbank. Purchased 2 years ago and still happy with it every trip. Even though you can easily charge your devices on the plane, we recommend this Powerbank. Indeed, it is the perfect airport accessories.

How long is the flight to Phuket?
Don't want to fly to Bangkok but to Phuket? Then you can too! But unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Phuket from the Netherlands. So you will always have to book a flight with one or two stopovers. We do not recommend this as you will always make a stop at Bangkok airport. Do you want to continue in one go anyway? Then the approximately 15 to 18 hours' flight to Phuket.
