How to travel from Phuket to Bangkok
1. By plane from Phuket to Bangkok
This option is our preferred one. With the plane from Phuket to Bangkok or vice versa is by far the fastest way to get around. In addition, it is also an affordable way. This may sound crazy, but you can get most tickets (one way) from as little as €20. Daily flights go between Phuket and Bangkok making it easy to plan. Flight time between Phuket and Bangkok is about 1.5 hours.
2. By bus from Phuket to Bangkok
The second option is the bus. This option can save you a lot of money but you must have the time. From several bus terminals in Phuket, buses leave daily for Bangkok and vice versa. Depending on the carrier, you will pay €20 and €35 for a bus ticket. Are plane tickets pricey? So then this is a great alternative. Keep in mind, however, that you will be on the bus for 13 hours. A night bus is therefore the ideal option.
Buying tickets: A convenient and reliable way to buy your bus ticket is through the website 12Go.Asia or a tourist office in Phuket. Always make sure to check with your hotel if the agency is reliable. Often the hotel also cooperates with agencies which guarantees you book with a reliable organisation.
Transport options
3. By train from Phuket to Bangkok
The last option is the train. This is by far the cheapest option but unfortunately this option does not take you all the way to Phuket. We therefore don't often recommend this option. However, it is a fine way to travel and you see a lot of the country. You travel from Phuket by bus to Surat Thani and from there you take the train to Hua Lamphong in Bangkok. This train ride takes about 9 hours and the bus trip takes 4 hours. So it will take you about the same amount of time as travelling by bus.
A train ticket costs between €10 & €40 depending on the class you choose. The bus costs around €8.
Buying tickets: You can buy train tickets via 12Go.Asia or at the train station. Tickets for the bus can be bought at the Surat Thani bus station.
