As a backpacker, you want clothes that are light, functional and versatile. Still, at least one dress always goes with me in my backpack: the wrap dress! Not only for those evenings when you want to be dressed just a bit nicer, but also for beach days, hot days or moments when you think, “I don't know what I want to wear.” For me, the wrap dress, also known as a wrap dress, is an absolute must-have on my packing list. Whether you are strolling through picturesque streets, enjoying a day at the beach or sitting down for a dinner with a view: this dress always fits.
Why choose a wrap dress or wrap dress?
Having packed our backpack countless times for destinations such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mexico and Malaysia, we know exactly which items should always be included. One item that should not be missing from my list, without a doubt, is the wrap dress. After all, this item weighs next to nothing, takes up hardly any space and dries very quickly if you wash it by hand. Ideal for travelling.
Tip: Choose a model with long or short sleeves (over the shoulders), so you can also wear it in temples or places where covering clothes are desired or mandatory.
Personally, I often go for a supple fabric that doesn't wrinkle, even after days in my backpack. During the day I wear it with flip-flops to the beach or around town, and in the evening with for dinner. One garment, multiple looks: exactly what you want when you pack critically.
Why a wrap dress is perfect for travel
In case you are still in doubt, here are the reasons why a wrap dress should always go with you:
- Ultimate wearing comfort: Thanks to the wrap design, you always adjust the dress for the perfect fit. No pinching, but still a feminine look. Also ideal as a quick cover-up over your bikini.
- Travel-friendly material: Choose low-wrinkle fabrics or prints where a crease is hardly noticeable.
- Stylish and practical: Suitable for both the beach and a night out, without the need to bring extra outfits.
Backpackproof packing tips for your clothes
- Roll up your clothes: This saves space and prevents deep creases.
- Use packing cubes: Keep track of your backpack and protect your clothes.
- Print + basic: Take simple basics and combine them with outspoken items such as a brightly coloured wrap dress or, for example, a denim waistcoat.
- Packing layers: Even for warm destinations, it is smart to bring layers.
- Bring a detergent: So you can easily wash some clothes on the go in a sink or at a laundrette.
- Pack on weight: Place heavy items at the bottom of your backpack and close to your back for better balance and less strain.
Tip: Are you travelling through both hot and cold areas? Use vacuum bags. That way you take more with you without extra baggage fees.
